Marking 100 years since the death of Scotland’s greatest revolutionary, Celtic Connections produces a night in tribute to the life and legacy of John Maclean and the movement that he stood for. ‘Red Clydeside’ – The John Maclean Centenary Concert features several special guests, including Billy Bragg, Karine Polwart, Eddi Reader, Paul McKenna, Siobhan Miller, and writer Henry Bell.
Maclean’s story, and the tragedy of his martyrdom, has inspired Scotland’s greatest poets and songwriters over the years. Featuring new work alongside the classic songs and poems of Hamish Henderson, Hugh MacDiarmid, Mary Brooksbank, Alistair Hulett, Matt McGinn, and Sorley Maclean, The Centenary Concert is an evening of music in tribute to a man loved by the people of Glasgow and feared by those in power.
