made in Acadia, Beauxmont is a band that blends traditional, Louisiana and
maritime sounds, creating music for big stages and kitchen parties alike.
Made up of 7 experienced musicians, Beauxmont is not new to rodeo. By joining
forces, the band members aim to carry on the torch of Acadian music legends
and get a new generation dancing till they drop. Dirk and Amelia Powell are a daughter/father duo from Southwest Louisiana. Dirk is well-known to Scottish audiences from his performances with Transatlantic Sessions and his work with artists such as Joan Baez, Eric Clapton, Rhiannon Giddens, and more. He is regarded as a champion of rural Americana, with a focus on the music of his Appalachian roots and his Cajun home. His original song 'Waterbound' has been recorded over 100 times. Dirk’s daughter Amelia grew up in the bayous of Louisiana, immersed in the musical culture of her grandfather, Cajun fiddle hero Dewey Balfa. Her band, Amis du Teche, is known as one of the most innovative young Cajun bands in the US. Together, they play music of their heritage, write and craft original songs, and bring audiences the kind of soulful connection that comes from family playing together with trust, humour, and love. |
