A double bill shaped by heritage, voice and place, bringing together two award-winning Scottish artists.
Fiona Soe Paing and Quinie both work with Scots song while exploring traditional material through a contemporary, experimental lens — reshaping songs, stories and inherited voices for the present moment.

Fiona Soe Paing performs her widely acclaimed albumSand, Silt, Flint, in a mesmerising audio-visual performance that combines ancient ballads, moving images, and innovative production. The show weaves live vocals with electronics, field recordings and audio drawn from the School of Scottish Studies Archives, alongside recorded contributions from leading traditional instrumentalists including Paul Anderson (fiddle) and Alice Allen (cello). Paired with location-based film, Sand, Silt, Flint explores the ballads and folklore of North-East Scotland to create a contemporary performance rooted in landscape, memory and tradition. Fiona has recently been awarded a PRS Foundation Women Make Music grant to further develop her exploration of traditional material through innovative practice. The album was described by Songlines Magazine as “a sublimely powerful and lingering experience.”

Quinie will perform music from Forefowk, Mind Me, recently named Folk Album of the Year by The Guardian, marking her as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Scottish folk. Performing with her full band (smallpipes, viola, duduk, bouzouki and double bass), and inspired by the legacy of Scots Traveller singer Lizzie Higgins, Quinie’s songs weave together Scots, Irish and Gaelic influences with composition and improvisation, resulting in a sound that is both contemporary and timeless. Her album was described by Songlines Magazine as “a stunning set: arresting, demanding, revealing and absorbing… once heard, unforgotten.”

Together, the evening offers a rare pairing of contemporary folk rooted deeply in place, memory and tradition — for those who care about heritage and are curious about where it will go next.  For fans of: Martyn Bennett, Alasdair Roberts, Aidan O’Rourke, Shirley Collins
