Fatoumata Diawara earned nominations at the Grammy Awards
and Victoires de la Musique for her album Fenfo. Her latest, London
Ko – co-produced by Damon Albarn, and featuring the English artist plus an
impressive line-up of international special guests – has elevated her
into the ranks of the great voices of Afrofuturism.
Diawara reinvents traditional African music, dismantling the
unconscious collective stereotype of the continent and demonstrating her
appreciation of the importance of interculturality. Striking a perfect balance
between traditional Malian rhythms and synthetic sounds, using genres of
afrobeat, jazz, pop, electro and hip hop, she shifts between avant-garde styles
and tributes to her ancestors.
As a composer and producer, Carola Ortiz has released three albums. Sirin in 2016; Spirala in 2018 and Pecata Beata in 2021. Her work spans the realms of jazz, singer songwriter forms and world music rhythms and instrumentation. Cantareras is Carola Ortiz's fourth solo music project, encompassing a curated collection of songs and romances drawn from the rich female oral tradition of the Iberian Peninsula, reimagined with a contemporary twist.
