Fatoumata Diawara brings a thrilling celebration of contemporary African music to the Old Fruitmarket.
Audiences can expect a vibrant fusion of Afrobeat, jazz, pop, electronic textures and traditional Mandinka influences, all woven together by Diawara’s commanding voice and magnetic stage presence. Rich percussion, intricate rhythms and the distinctive sounds of instruments such as the kora and n'goni create a dynamic soundscape that moves effortlessly between rooted tradition and forward-looking experimentation.
Her songs carry both energy and purpose, exploring themes of identity, connection and social change while inviting audiences into a shared musical journey. Whether building towards powerful rhythmic crescendos or settling into more intimate, reflective moments, the performance showcases an artist constantly pushing creative boundaries while remaining deeply connected to her cultural heritage.
