Music that moves effortlessly between folk, indie and contemporary roots traditions
This Is The Kit invites audiences into a warmly human musical world where reflection, connection and celebration sit side by side. Led by songwriter Kate Stables, the performance unfolds through intricate guitar and banjo lines, understated rhythms and richly textured arrangements that draw listeners in with quiet confidence.
Expect songs that balance poignant observation with moments of gentle uplift, creating a soundscape that feels intimate yet expansive, with every instrument contributing to a deeply collaborative atmosphere. Joined by an exceptional band, Stables’ distinctive voice sits at the centre of music that moves effortlessly between folk, indie and contemporary roots traditions, offering space for contemplation as well as shared joy.
Curiosity Shop is a five piece alt-folk band, each from a different corner of Scotland. In contrast with their rainy, dark and rural upbringings, their music is bright and full of life. Drawing from singer/songwriter influences, they also tap into the worlds of folk, jazz and trad. Their unique sound is defined by their use of warm vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentation featuring acoustic guitar, double bass and accordion. You will find them distinctive, yet comfortingly familiar.
There is a rare sense of companionship in these live performances, where subtle details and emotional honesty resonate throughout the room. Set within the characterful surroundings of Old Fruitmarket, this show promises a welcome gathering place on a winter evening.
