Saltfishforty Big Band & Special Guests

Saltfishforty expand their famously energetic sound for a special one-off festival celebration, joined by a specially assembled big band and an array of guest performers. At the heart of the evening are the distinctive musical voices of Douglas Montgomery and Brian Cromarty, whose blend of Orkney’s rich traditional heritage, original songs and inventive arrangements has captivated audiences for decades.

Expect soaring fiddle and viola melodies, driving rhythms, memorable songs and the unmistakable atmosphere of an Orcadian gathering, all amplified by the power and colour of a larger ensemble. The duo’s music balances raw energy with warmth and musical nuance, moving effortlessly from lively dance tunes to reflective moments that evoke the landscapes, stories and communities of the islands. With additional musicians adding fresh textures and new dimensions to their much-loved repertoire, this promises to be a joyful and expansive celebration of Orkney music.

Bringing together friends, collaborators and festival audiences, this special Celtic Connections event offers a winter showcase of one of Scotland’s most distinctive folk acts.
