Beth Malcolm is a 2020 Danny Kyle Open Stage winner, and daughter of leading folk artists Jim and Susie Malcolm. She honed her craft singing floor-spots at Glasgow’s Star Folk Club. By doing so, she developed a vocal and lyrical style that’s won comparisons to KT Tunstall and Karine Polwart. Following two highly-praised EPs, and recent guest collaborations with Blue Rose Code, Adam Holmes, Niteworks and Fat-Suit, her much anticipated debut album, Kiss’d and Cryed, is due in spring 2023

Self-styled as “a musical coming-of-age story”, Malcolm’s three-act New Voices composition, By Process of Folkmosis, explores and celebrates the interplay of upbringing and outside influences that’s steered her musical journey, in an intricate mix of original and traditional song, spoken word and rich instrumental accompaniment. Co-arranged with Fat-Suit bandleader Dorian Cloudsley, and featuring Malcolm herself on vocals and keyboards, her chosen ensemble features Ali Levack (whistles/pipes), Andrew Waite (accordion), Callum Convoy (bodhrán), Eryn Rae (fiddle), Laura Penman (clàrsach/ piano), Heather Cartwright (guitar) and David Bowden (bass).
