Founded in 1996 by piper Hamish Moore and Gaelic arts agency Pròiseact nan Ealan, Ceòlas in South Uist has grown from a week-long music and dance school into a world-leading cultural heritage organisation. Incorporating guided walks, house cèilidhs and village-hall dances, for full immersion in Uist’s living Gaelic culture, the now-fabled summer school annually attracts over 100 international students, taught by today’s finest traditional musicians. In 2020, these include Allan MacDonald, Mary Jane Lamond, Mats Melin, Robbie Greig, Ingrid Henderson, Cathy Ann MacPhee, Iain MacFarlane and Gillebrìde Mac ‘IlleMhaoil. Ceòlas also runs a yearly song symposium, Gaelic literary festival and Yuletide community Fèis, and is currently partnering with Lews Castle College UHI in establishing a purpose-built education and performance centre on the island. Join them tonight for the ultimate Hebridean cèilidh in the city.
