Prolific, versatile and prodigiously gifted, violinist/composer Catriona Price (of Fara and Twelfth Day) brings all these qualities to bear in her vocal and instrumental suite Hert, a 2020 New Voices commission now recorded as her debut album. Inspired by famous and lesser-known writings from Price’s native Orkney, the music’s eight movements reflect the full gamut of her influences and interests, from traditional via pop to contemporary classical. Her nine-piece ensemble, variously incorporating a vocal trio, string quartet and jazz trio, plus harp and flute, also includes Esther Swift, Sarah Hayes, Seonaid Aitken, Sarah Leonard, Alice Allen, Tom Gibbs, Andrew Robb and Owen Williams.

Cynefin (pr. kuh-neh-vin) is the creative vision of West Wales native Owen Shiers. Fascinated by music and history, it is a bid to give a modern voice to Ceredigion’s rich yet neglected cultural heritage. Starting out from his home village of Capel Dewi in the Clettwr Valley and traveling through the local musical landscape, Owen has unearthed seasoned songs and stories, some never before recorded, and given them new life in the present. Hailed by the Guardian as 'a stunning new talent' and nominated for Welsh Album of the Year 2020, Cynefin gives Owen a platform to ply his intricate arranging skills whilst taking him right back to his roots.
