Westward the Light
perform music from their self-titled album, which has been lauded for “captur[ing] the majesty of the landscape as well as the heritage of the land”. Bandmates Charlie Grey
, Sally Simpson
, Owen Sinclair
and Joseph Peach
pool their considerable musical artistry and knowledge of folk history and their own home turf to create fresh compositions that are redolent with the age-old stories of Scotland’s land and people. Deploying fiddle, viola, guitar, piano and vocals and with track titles such as 'Dr McLeod Wears a Dirk', 'Retreat March' and 'Making Butter', these pieces are by turns melancholy and joyful, stirring and haunting. The effect is magical.
