Celtic Connections 2023

Shetland fiddle player Ross Couper returns to Celtic Connections, this time with his own band. Joining him is BBC Scotland's Traditional Musician of the Year, Michael Biggins and drumming legend Paul Jennings. This will be the first outing of 'The Ross Couper Band' and it’ll be a chance to hear some material from his well-received New Voices last year plus some newly written music. Look out for a special guest or two on the night…

The duo Thomas/Faure began making music in January 2020 for concerts in support of refugees and cooperation projects with Mali. They infuse into traditional tunes the accents and rhythms harvested along their travels around the world. In particular dance music from Brittany, the Middle East, Europe and South America.  Jean-Luc Thomas (flutes) and Gabriel Faure (fiddle) enjoy light and intimate setups which brings them into close contact with their audiences. Together they are working on an album scheduled for June 2023 on the Hirustica label.
