Having honed their skills during seven years as house band at legendary Toronto venue the Dakota Tavern, Canadian trio The Lonesome Ace Stringband bring uncanny ensemble synergy to their distinctive bluegrass/old-time blend. Their line-up of fiddle, banjo, bass and three lead vocals balances multi-layered richness with ample creative space, in a repertoire that takes in vintage Appalachian, honky-tonk and jug-band fare together with contemporary covers and original material. Their latest album, the aptly though wryly named Modern Old-Time Sounds for the Bluegrass and Folksong Jamboree, was released in 2019.

Three accomplished musicians in their own right, The Magpies is a combination far greater than the sum of its parts. Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award winning guitarist, banjo-player and singer Bella Gaffney, clawhammer banjo player and singer Kate Griffin and acclaimed fiddle-player and tunesmith Holly Brandon draw on their wide-ranging influences to create a unique blend of transatlantic folk.
