Formed in 2013, Dublin-based quartet The Jeremiahs have been hailed by top folk broadcaster Mike Harding as “one of the most exciting bands to come out of Ireland in many a year”. Now featuring ex-Solas singer and fiddler Niamh Varian-Barry alongside their outstanding vocalist Joe Gibney, flautist Julien Bruneteau and guitarist James Ryan, the band’s self-styled “urban folk” splices a vibrant array of traditional, contemporary and international elements. Building on their hometown’s rich ballad heritage, The Jeremiahs’ 2017 second album, The Femme Fatale of Maine, revealed an increasing focus on original songwriting.
The Canny Band – here launching their much-anticipated debut album - comprise the multi-award-winning young talents of accordionist Sam Mabbett, pianist Michael Biggins and Callum Convoy on bodhran. Fellow stalwarts of Glasgow’s fertile session scene, the already-seasoned trio cook up an expert, effervescent mix of trad-based material with borrowings from classical, jazz and beyond.
