The great Texan singer-songwriter Nanci Griffth, who died in August 2021, cherished her own Celtic connections via her parents’ Scottish and Welsh heritage, and toured regularly in Scotland from the 1980s on, when her career took off as part of the ‘New Country’ trend.

Celebrating this kinship, a perennial live favourite was the a cappella “Road to Aberdeen” written on a tour bus en route to the Granite City. Glasgow audiences particularly took her to their hearts: on one of her last visits, back in 2012, she recounted finding her Concert Hall dressing-room piled with gifts from adoring fans. Griffith’s eloquently literate, emotionally complex songcraft, vividly rooted in ordinary lives and often informed by her passionate social and political concerns, seamlessly blended folk, country and vintage rock’n’roll influences.

It’s a legacy honoured here by a star-studded vocal cast including Karen Matheson, James Grant, Emily Smith, Dean Owens, Jill Jackson and Kirsten Adamson, with more special guests to be announced.

Produced in association with Southern Fried Festival, Perth.
