In a career now dating back over a quarter-century, the Peatbog Faeries have gone from insurgent young upstarts, souping up Highland traditions with liberal injections of reggae, funk, African, trance and techno sounds, to recipients of Hands Up for Trad’s Landmark Award, for services to Scottish music, and inaugural inductees in the Hebridean Celtic Festival Hall of Fame. Distinguished veterans they may now be, after seven studio albums and two live recordings (most recently 2017’s stonking anniversary release, Live@25), but the visceral and joyous impact of their thrillingly immersive performances - complete with spectacular bespoke lighting design- has only intensified over the years.

Of similar vintage, and no less excitingly evergreen, The Poozies currently feature up to three fiddles alongside co-founder Mary MacMaster’s signature electro-harp, together with guitars, banjo, percussion and four harmonising voices, on material that ranges from traditional Gaelic ballads to pitch-black comedy originals, delicate chamber-folk to barnstorming jigs’n’reels. “These four ladies rock” (Living Tradition)
