Celtic Connections 2023

Join Glasgow’s Paul Towndrow as he launches his exciting new album Outwith The Circle. Once described as “a turbo-charged amalgam of all your saxophone heroes”, the world-renowned player and composer has performed with stars such as Benny Golson, John Scofield, Ben E King, The Fratellis and produced 6 solo albums. Created with co-conspirators Pete Johnstone on Hammond C3 Organ and drummer Alyn Cosker, this new work explores the intersections of jazz and traditional Celtic music and includes special guests Eddi Reader, Ross Ainslie and Davie Dunsmuir.

James Lindsay promises an enthralling exploration of contemporary Scottish folk. This award-winning composer, bass player and multi-instrumentalist seamlessly blends jazz, experimental rock and other influences, merging traditional tune forms with contemporary harmony, abstract rhythm, and the freedom of improvisation. Having toured the world as Breabach’s double bass player, Lindsay has achieved critical acclaim for his solo albums and his latest, Torus, is by turns intense and expansive, darkly atmospheric and uplifting.
