Fittingly
for Scotland’s oldest instrument, new harp music has been a cutting-edge force
in our contemporary folk renaissance since Sileas and Savourna Stevenson’s
early days. Building on that proud track-record, three of those artists’
leading current successors present their own original compositions. Gillian
Fleetwood’s piece, inspired by the interplay of human ingenuity with nature,
features an extremely rare, 205-year-old Erard pedal harp, belonging to
Arbroath arts centre Hospitalfield House, together with clársach, string duo
and guitar/electronic manipulation. Sarah MacNeil’s NorthBay,
incorporating string quartet, was composed on Barra, where she began playing
the harp at the Fèis, while first-class RCS graduate Rebecca Hill showcases
material from her forthcoming debut EP.
A limited number of additional tickets will be released through via the Tron Theatre Box Office from November 24th.
