Maija Kauhanen is a fleet-fingered virtuoso and one-woman orchestra. She combines her expressive voice with deep-rooted Finnish kantele and inventive percussion. Weaving together polyrhythms and organic beats, she creates unique soundscapes and compelling grooves.

Multi-awarded Maija is one of the most successful contemporary folk musicians from Finland. She has toured over 30 countries around Europe, Asia and America. In May 2022, Maija released her second solo album Menneet (The Past).

On the new album, Kauhanen takes a step towards being a singer-songwriter without losing the strong roots in tradition. The music draws influences from folk music, indie pop and film scores and tells stories of personal space and setting one’s boundaries.

Hailing from the Scottish Borders, Andrew Waite is an accordion player and composer. He has been building his solo career whilst playing with well-known folk bands Dallahan and Fourth Moon. As well as performing alongside Siobhan Miller, Lucy Farrel, Grainne Brady and the Claire Hastings Band.

His music is rooted in Scottish, Irish and English Trad music but he takes influences from many genres including jazz, Gypsy jazz, musette and classic. In 2011 Andrew was a finalist in the ‘BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year’. He was also a Nominee for ‘Up and Coming Act of the Year’ at Na Trads 2015 and ‘Musician of the year’ 2022.

Andrew has also appeared on stage with Sting, The Unusual Suspects, the RSNO and performed as a guest on many albums. Here, Andrew presents his second solo album Self Portrait 2022.
