After the bold artistic departure of his stunning song-based solo debut in 2016, Hearts Broken, Heads Turned, the prodigiously talented Jarlath Henderson – multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, producer and doctor – brought his signature uilleann pipes and whistle back to the fore on 2019’s potently stripped-down Raw, abetted by regular cohorts Hamish Napier, Innes Watson and Duncan Lyall.

With a line-up of vocals, gaita, accordion, trumpet and percussion, newly-formed Galician quartet Ailá revitalise archive traditional material in vibrant contemporary arrangements.

Selected as the UK’s sole showcase act at WOMEX 2019, Scottish fiddle/guitar duo Ryan Young and Jenn Butterworth transport their classic instrumental pairing to freshly thrilling and rarefied heights.
