Celtic Connections 2023
From the Isle of Lewis, James Duncan Mackenzie is a piper and wooden flute player who is known for his musicianship and tune writing. To date he has released three solo albums as well as a tune book containing 70 of his compositions. Fìbhig is his new release and was written and recorded from home over a two year period 2020-2022. Named after a small village on the West side of the Isle of Lewis near where James lives. The tunes on the album are inspired by place, people and island life. James is joined for this live performance of Fìbhig by some very special guests who played on the album.

Awarded with first prize in The Battle Of Folk Bands at Celtic Connections 2022, Deira is a trio based in Asturias (Spain). They are presenting their new album Alba. Their music has a strong connection with Scottish music as they are influenced and inspired from many musicians in the Glasgow scene. Their arrangements show a renewal of traditional music with a contemporary element and modern atmospheres. They started playing together as a band in 2019 in the Asturias tent at Interceltic Festival of Lorient in Brittany. After obtaining several awards in competitions for new bands, they had a summer tour in 2022 that took them to important folk festivals in Scotland and Spain.
