Celtic Connections 2022
From frenetic fiddle tunes to heartfelt love songs, Glasgow-based Gnoss perform music that stirs the blood. After scooping the Danny Kyle Award in 2015, they notched up folk industry accolades before delivering two sold-out Celtic Connection shows in 2019 and 2020. Combining outstanding musicianship, deep traditional roots and contemporary compositional flair, bandmates Aidan Moodie, Graham Rorie, Connor Sinclair and Craig Baxter “pushed ourselves into new spaces musically” to create their sophomore album, The Light of the Moon, nominated for Album of the Year at the 2021 MG Alba Trad Awards. Playing the album through in its entirety tonight, Gnoss are joined by guests Charlie Stewart on double bass, Kristan Harvey and Patsy Reid on strings, and Signy Jakobsdottir on percussion.

Mairi McGillivray is a Gaelic singer from the island of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. Mairi comes from a strong Gaelic background and uses her heritage along with her dynamic range of musical influences to put her own style on songs from her tradition, performing in Gaelic and other traditional styles. Mairi has performed at various venues across the UK and graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2020 with a First Class Honours in Traditional Music. She also won a prestigious Danny Kyle Award in January 2021.
