Legendary Irish folk music band Dervish, are one of Ireland's best known traditional bands, described by the BBC as “an icon of Irish music”. Their 30 years of recording and touring was rewarded in 2019 with a BBC lifetime achievement award.
The band's line-up includes some of Ireland’s finest traditional musicians - fronted by one of the country’s best-known singers, Cathy Jordan. Cathy is regarded by many as the most distinctive voice and finest front-woman in Irish traditional music today. The instrumental line-up of fiddle, flute, bouzouki, mandola, bodhran and accordion draw from the depths of talent, finesse, subtlety and fiery energy. Expect exceptional musicianship, breath-taking vocals, vibrant sets of tunes and instantly compelling songs.
Breabach rank among Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative contemporary folk acts. They unite deep roots in Highland and Island tradition with the innovative musical ferment of their Glasgow base. They have released 7 increasingly acclaimed albums, whilst fuelling their creative appetites in collaborations. Collaborators include BAFTA award winning animator Cat Bruce, indigenous Australasian artists Moana & The Tribe, Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord, video game composer Big Giant Circles and Cape Bretoners, Beòlach.
2022 sees the release of their latest album Fàs (meaning growth/sprouting). Heavily inspired by the natural environment of Scotland, the band showcase more progressive elements in their music than ever before. Breabach are; Megan Henderson, James Lindsay, Calum MacCrimmon, Conal McDonagh and Ewan Robertson. Over 17 years they have racked up an impressive array of accolades. These include 5 Scots Trad Music Awards, nominations at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and ‘European Album of the Year’ in The Songlines Music Awards.
