Frontman of the Mercury-nominated, Brit Award-winning avant-pop outfit Guillemots – and occasional classical composer – Fyfe Dangerfield recalls the core recording of his debut solo release, Fly Yellow Moon, as “five of the happiest days I’ve ever spent in studioland”. With the album due in January 2010, tonight’s show focuses on this new collection of songs, which cover “all walks of noise from the whisperer to the inebriated screamer”.
Named for the Western Isles capital but actually from Oxford, the idiosyncratic six-piece Stornoway have been generating a major media buzz with their first two singles, Zorbing and Unfaithful. Meandering winsomely and wistfully between between folk, rock and pastoral acoustic pop, they’ve variously been likened to Noah & the Whale and early James.
Also supporting tonight will be fledgling Dublin band Villagers, a superb live act whose debut release suggested a band with huge potential.
Please note that all patrons must be over the age of 14 and anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
