Celtic Connections 2007 invites you to a sumptuous multicultural feast of music, dance, food and poetry, celebrating the spirit of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, with the energy, colour and spectacle of an Asian mela.
Curated by the renowned Asian-underground artist Sushil K Dade (Future Pilot AKA), this star-studded line-up includes the electrifying percussive powerhouse of Johnny Kalsi and the Dhol Foundation, DJ Tigerstyle, Dundee’s finest Michael Marra, piper Iain MacInnes, early music group Concerto Caledonia and flute/whistle ace Michael McGoldrick with tabla virtuoso Parvinder Bharat.
The legendary master of the Indian bansuri flute, Hariprasad Chaurasia, will appear with his quartet, while Future Pilot AKA perform as ‘The Burns Unit’, a specially-convened all-star ensemble and very special mystery guests performing dub versions of Burns’ songs.
There will also be a Burns reading by legendary Scots novelist/illustrator Alasdair Gray.
The ticket price for this evening includes a lavish Burns-inspired buffet, supplied by Harlequin Indian restaurants. Specially prepared dishes include haggis pakora, neeps and tattie samosas and Ayrshire masala.
