Eight-times Grammy winner Béla Fleck has done more than any other individual to challenge the banjo’s redneck image. Originally inspired by Earl Scruggs and “Duelling Banjos”, Fleck has been a key progressive force in US acoustic music for over two decades, a former member of the groundbreaking New Grass Revival, and leader of the Flecktones since 1988.
Direct from New York the current nine piece line-up including saxophonist Jeff Coffin, bassist Victor Wooten and percussionist Futureman finds the band on typically adventurous, sophisticated form and fresh from two Grammy award nominations (Best Contemporary Jazz Album Of The Year and Best Pop Instrumental Performance Of The Year). Enjoy their heady mix of jazz, experimental, classical, folk and electronic stylings.
The deceptively named all girl foursome Uncle Earl has been greeted as one of the freshest and most distinctive acts to emerge from the current US old-time vogue. Their vivacious reinvention of pre-bluegrass string-band sounds incorporates influences drawn from the folk, alt.country, pop and jam-band scenes, as showcased on their debut album She Waits for Night.
