An Aifreann Ghàidhlig/The Gaelic Mass

St Mary's Cathedral

Please Note: This is a past event.

An Aifreann GĂ idhlig represents a musical crossover between the traditional and classical styles and is a project which has interested and fascinated Blair Douglas for some years, but one which he has only recently felt equipped, both musically and spiritually, to undertake.

More akin to the folk masses of Ramirez than the full-blown classical versions of a Mozart or Faure, the Gaelic Mass is firmly rooted in the Celtic tradition, but also seeks to explore and develop differing musical themes.

It features a host of Gaelic talent including the Inverness Gaelic Choir and soloists Paul McCallum and Maggie MacDonald, who combine musical styles in this unique and original work, created without sacrificing the sanctity of the Mass.

Opening the evening will be Gillie Mackenzie (performing traditional and self-penned Gaelic and English songs) with gorgeous accompaniment from Ewan MacPherson (guitar) and Mhairi Hall (piano).
