Principal Sponsor

Scottish Power

Now into their fourth year as the festival’s Principal Sponsor, ScottishPower’s support of the festival demonstrates the company’s commitment to making culture accessible for all.

In sponsoring Scotland’s premier roots music festival, ScottishPower is celebrating its Scottish origins, investing in the future of its national traditions and engaging with the wider international community. The company’s commitment to Celtic Connections enables festival organisers to bring the best in international and home-grown talent to Glasgow every January.

This year, ScottishPower is encouraging pupils across the country to celebrate Scottish musical heritage by offering one lucky secondary school group the opportunity to perform at Celtic Connections 2010 through a unique competition – the ScottishPower Powerful Performance. The initiative has been created by the international energy company to complement the festival’s own hugely successful Education Programme, and reflects the company’s belief in the importance of enabling culture to be accessible for all.

Funders

Scottish Arts Council Glasgow City Council Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Scottish Enterprise Culture Ireland

Celtic Connections would not exist in its current form without the major support it has received over the years from both Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Arts Council. In addition to the significant level of funding that both organisations contribute to the festival itself, they also strongly support the work of Glasgow’s Concert Halls, the company which runs the festival, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, City Halls and the Old Fruitmarket.

Scottish Enterprise funds the festival in recognition of its social and economic impact to the city. The results of an economic impact survey carried out at the 2009 festival revealed that Celtic Connections generated a total of £5.6m of new output to the Glasgow area, and a total of £6.6m of new output to Scotland.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau is supporting Celtic Connections 2010, in recognition of the festival’s contribution to Glasgow’s international reputation as a centre of excellence for live music of all genres.

Culture Ireland, the agency responsible for the promotion of Irish arts worldwide, is delighted to be supporting the participation of some of the best emerging and established Irish artists at this year’s festival.

Media Partners

Sunday Herald Evening Times

The Sunday Herald, Evening Times, The Herald and Heraldscotland.com continue to provide in-depth preview and review coverage of the festival.

The Evening Times sponsors the Danny Kyle Open Stage, which has been a launch point for many of today’s successful young acts, including Karine Polwart, who performed with Malinky in the very first Open Stage competition.

The Sunday Herald supports the New Voices commissioning series, which offers a major national platform to promising composers in the early stages of their composing careers. Previous composers have included artists such as Anna Massie and Aidan O'Rourke, and many of the commissions have gone on to feature at other festivals and events around the world.

Official Transport Provider

We are very happy to have the continued support of ScotRail, which has supported the festival since its inception, helping artists to get to Glasgow from all over Scotland on their fast, convenient services.

Education Partners

This year, the BAA Communities Trust is supporting the Celtic Connections Education Programme, enabling thousands of school children to enjoy free in-school workshops and experience live music at education concerts throughout the festival. The programme is also supported by the Cruden Foundation.

Partners

There are many other organisations that help out along the way in various forms. TMSA, Alliance Francaise and Hire-A-Phone have all been great supporters of the festival over the past few years. Barrhead Travel helps us with the daunting logistics of bringing hundreds of artists from around the world. Coda music quite literally sets up shop in the Concert Hall for the festival, ensuring that you can enjoy the music of your favourite artists long after the concert has finished. And for all those people who can’t make it to the festival in person, the BBC takes it to them, in the form of live broadcasts and recorded programmes.
