In the 1920s the Glasgow artist-architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh settled in Port Vendres in south-west France where he painted a series of fifty or so outstanding watercolours. Several of these were of the town of Collioure, where a flourishing Mackintosh Association is now well established. To mark the connections with Mackintosh and Scotland, the Municipality of Collioure, has established a residency in the town for two artists from Scotland to spend a month painting. This exhibition brings together the first four artists to have taken part – James Morrison and Douglas Davies, Glen Scouller and George Devlin.

Glass and light are fascinating mediums to work with. Traditionally both have been used for centuries to create beautifully illuminating, educational religious imagery within ecclesiastical settings. Henderson’s work seeks to release the spiritual possibilities of stained glass from dogma; to capture a sense of power, drama and movement, creating a complementary duality between the rigidity of the stained glass technique and the expressiveness of the imagery.

Long time friend of the festival, photographer Louis DeCarlo presents portraits of recent inductees to the TMSA Hall of Fame.
